Frequently Asked Questions | Newborn Photography Session

Brisbane Newborn Photography Frequently Asked Questions. Danielle Stahl is an award winning newborn photographer based in Brisbane Australia. This blog post answers many questions that are commonly asked by clients in preparation for their newborn photography session. Thanks for visiting!

Q: What age is best for Newborn Photos?

A: All of the babies in my newborn gallery are ages two weeks or under. This is the recommended timeframe for traditional newborn portraits as babe is still very sleepy and curled up. If you miss this window, babies of any age are always welcomed! It’s never too late to capture this precious time.

Q: How long does the session normally take?

A: Newborn Sessions usually take around 1-2 hours. Older baby photography sessions are usually a lot quicker as they can tire easily and their happiness can turn quite quickly. With this in mind, I am used to working fast in this age group!

Q: Can we get some family images in addition to newborn?

A: Yes! Your session fee covers immediate family members. In a standard gallery I aim include some sibling photos (if applicable), photos of each parent with baby and some group family photos. Here is a link to my family photography gallery.

Q: What do we wear?

A: I suggest parents bring babe in nappy and zip up onesie (no singlet). This ensures we can gently transition a baby that arrives asleep, into the session. If you have any special or sentimental items you would like to photograph babe in, that is always welcome. I have a significant amount of blankets, wraps and hats so most parents bring babe just as they are.

For parents and siblings, I suggest neutral colours with no patterns or distracting logos. My studio is very white and earth natural tones always photograph well. The main aim is for you to be comfortable so that is my highest priority when suggesting clothing.

For more clothing inspiration you can see my family gallery on my website.

Q: When do we select our images/collection?

A: This is all done online around two weeks after your photo session date. I will send you a private link of watermarked images for you to choose from. From there you can choose which digital collection you wish to go with.

Q: How do we reserve our session date?

A: You can submit your details using my “Make a Booking” form. Due to the nature of birth being unpredictable, I will pencil in your due date and we can secure a date and time once babe has arrived. The session fee of $100 paid at the time of booking confirms your session.

Q: Do you offer products in addition to digital file collections?

A: I do have incredible suppliers that offer framed images, canvas’ and albums available for purchase. Please touch base with me for more information.

Q: What if my newborn is unsettled?

A: During a newborn shoot, I will always follow babes lead. I encourage parents bring babe with a full tummy, where possible. I have extensive experience handling, settling and photographing babies in their first few weeks of life. We will always ensure baby is happy and safe. I have many tricks up my sleeve to ensure baby stays content for the duration of the shoot.
